Rules For A Middle Aged Artist - Beijing Public Toilet Two Fly Rule

RULES FOR A MIDDLE AGED ARTIST

20 November 2015, Pepino

I don't participate in open calls.

I don't apply anything.

I don't give ideas or proposals for exhibitions. Before doing anything there must be a contract.

I don't participate in exhibitions without a clear and detailed contract.

I don't do anything for free.

If I travel, the hosting institution must accept my detailed rider.

I don't negotiate about the prices of my work.

A work is not considered sold before I receive the money.

One Man And Another Man - Tricolor Shopping

ONE MAN AND ANOTHER MAN

16 November 2015, Pepino

One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. One man's victory is another man's defeat. One man's hero is another man's villain. One man's freedom is another man's dictatorship. One man's dream is another man's nightmare. One man's heaven is another man's hell. One man's virtue is another man's sin. One man's wealth is another man's poverty. One man's consumption is another man's sweat shop. One man's democracy is another man's capitalism.

Action Painting - Color Theory

ACTION PAINTING

08 November 2015, Pepino

On Sundays, most of the people in the Western world relax and rest. I just came home after a five-hour painting session. It's less than a factory worker's day but I'm totally exhausted. I worked with large papers covered with color splashes. Action painting is physical exercise. When we moved to our new house, I though I was going to bike to the studio but finally I've been using a car for commuting. However, I've lost several kilos thanks to the gestural conceptualism I practice. The heavy duty paper sings: Let's get physical, physical / I wanna get physical / Let me hear your body talk...

Supersonic Painting - Supersonic Painting

SUPERSONIC PAINTING

04 November 2015, Pepino

Joining the roster of Galerie Forsblom has been probably the best move in my career. We've been now working together for fifteen months and the gallery has dedicated to my oeuvre a major solo show, a full room in the summer group show and they've taken my stuff to several art fairs in Europe and America. On top of that, my works have been constantly hung on the gallery walls outside of the exhibition areas. It's not only the sales that keep me happy but the motivation - I was used to the dynamics in which the works stay at the studio for years before being exhibited. Sometimes I found no reason to paint more just to store the work in my over packed studio. Now the shipping company comes regularly to pick up my latest pieces. Sometimes it takes just few weeks that the works are finished until they are shown and often sold. I'm working supersonic. When there's high velocity in the whole process, it's easier to think faster too. The faster I move, the better is the result and the quality.
