RIIKO SAKKINEN 100'S
30 June 2014, Cervera de los Montes
This week I sold 100 drawings. Sounds big money but actually it was a special offer I made for my Facebook fans. I launched a series consisting of 100 drawings featuring the same figure of Kinder Egg viking mascot but each of them sporting a different finish, message and details, selling them for 100€ each. I made many fans, who can't afford a real work of mine, happy - and earned money to pay the rent for few months. Now I can even consider buying some art materials.
MIDDLE CLASS DREAMS
23 June 2014, Cervera de los Montes
After the MuNA adventures I'm working relaxed at the studio this summer. The school year finished last week and my son is drawing with me. I enjoy of not having deadlines or shows in the sunny season. The only dark cloud over my head is the money. This week we begin to construct our long dreamed house which will be a minimalist white cube in the Castilian landscape. Of course, it will be property of the bank for the next 30 years. Now I need to find out how to finance this middle class dream coming true.

Yesterday before flying back home from Helsinki, I signed a contract with Galerie Forsblom, the most powerful gallery in Finland. After seven years and a vast number of great shows with Korjaamo Galleria, I felt it was time to move on towards new challenges. I've been happy to work with Korjaamo where I've always felt respected and enjoyed total freedom to develop my ideas. Anyhow, now my career needs changes and it's time to play in a bigger team.
A VERY NICE DISSIDENT
14 June 2014, Mänttä
The new Serlachius Museum and my MuNA Museum of No Art are now open to the visitors. I spent the opening reception inside my metal museum signing merchandising. I felt happy and maybe I was too nice to people. Sometimes I forget my role as an evil dissident artist and show accidentally my good heart. I gave advice to the minister of culture who has been laughed at when she told in an interview that she likes cat paintings. Then I told to the mayor of Mänttä how to develop his town with a great museum and lousy infrastructure and services. All politician were thankful for my help - and there's no irony in this. Then I've been smiling to the capitalists of the board of trustees of the Serlachius Foundation. I forget who I am when I have a couple of drinks.
THE MUNA WEEK
09 June 2014, Cervera de los Montes
This is the MuNA week. On Friday, the new Serlachius Museum opens in Mänttä, Finland, with my MuNA - Museum of No Art, a project we've been working with over two years. It's not the largest show I've done in square meters but by far it's the most complex project ever and the budget is bigger than the amount that I've spent in all my works and exhibitions together before.
I went to Mänttä two weeks ago but after that the Serlachius team led by Pauli and Tarja has been completing the installation. I'm used to work hard during the inaugural weeks but here I am drawing at the studio and planning lunch for the family. Tomorrow evening I bus to Madrid and have dinner with Carlos and stay in his place. On Wednesday, I fly to Helsinki and spend the day with my mother. On Thursday, I catch a train to Mänttä. I'm going to be in the museum few minutes before the press event begins and I'll see my finished work together with the journalists. It's a peculiar feeling.
